Headmaster's Weekly Address

RYAN, Hector William Peter

St Kevin’s College expresses our deepest sympathy at the sad passing of our Year 12, 2017 student, Hector. Our thoughts and prayers are with Hector’s parents, Peter and Cate, his sister, Annabelle, and his extended family.

Hector was a student of the College from Year 7, 2012 and was a member of Cusack House. His studies flourished in 2017. Hector was a passionate oarsman and a keen basketballer.

Dear Parents

St Kevin’s College is a faith school. Our faith tradition is Christian. We are a Catholic school following the charism of Edmund Rice. My faith nourishes me, challenges me and, at times, I am confused. My actions, words and deeds, I hope, reflect that I am a pilgrim, one with flaws and faults, but one who has consciously decided that my belief in the Eternal and in the Gospels, remain the guiding principles in my life.

It is in times as difficult as these, following Hector Ryan’s (SKC 2017) death, that faith and the tradition and strength of this faith community allows many others and me the privilege to assist our families who are grieving and to ensure that our community gathers and draws strength from one another and our beliefs rather than split asunder in upset and confusion over such a tragedy.

Hector’s parents, Peter (SKC 82) and Cate, along with their daughter, Annabelle, asked me to thank all the SKC family who have offered support. It is so important that this support is ongoing. We have held the Funeral Service and Remembrance Ceremony here at school with the support of so many talented and generous colleagues. As you receive this Newsletter, we will be gathered on the Plaza, following the Remembrance Ceremony, supporting and comforting the family and one another.
