Headmaster's Weekly Address

17-Aug-2017

The Music Concert season continues to entertain large audiences, provide important performance opportunities and, on a simply but joyous level, tells us of the many talented boys and excellent staff that are part of our mature and musically accomplished program.

Since I wrote in high praise of the Choral and Vocal Evening, there has been the Strings Concert and the Bands Showcase. I think I counted over 250 musicians at the Bands Showcase!

Science Week/Fortnight is well underway. I am almost nervous to leave my office in the McCarthy Building for fear of a reptile encounter, detailed digestive chalk diagrams in the quadrangle just before lunch, or, some form of chemical and/or biological event which requires my participation. Do look at ‘This Week at SKC’ (below) to gain a full appreciation of the myriad of activities. Well done to Mr Bylsma, our Science staff and very hard-working Laboratory Technicians.

The Foundation Business Breakfast was a very informative and successful morning. My thanks to Mr Rob Tucker (Moderator and ELC parent), Mr Ross Sudano (Tom Year 12 and William Year 7) and Mr Sandy Cameron, for their professional input. My hope is that the forum allowed us to once again explain the 100% philanthrophic nature of our Foundation and will encourage more of our community to join this worthy cause.

Finally, congratulations to the 1st XV who won the VSRU Premiership last Saturday. Led so ably by Sione Tui and Angus Edwards, the boys played calmly and with consummate skill. The team was remarkably coached by Messrs Doherty, Crompton and Dash.
