Headmaster's Weekly Address

It is with pleasure and confidence I publish the text of the message sent to parents last Friday, regarding the appointment of Ms Janet Canny, as Deputy Head of St Kevin’s College from January 2018.

Ms Janet Canny has been appointed by the Executive Director of EREA, Dr Wayne Tinsey as Deputy Head of St Kevin’s College, from 2018.

Ms Canny holds a Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Diploma of Curriculum from University of Melbourne and a Diploma of Education from Melbourne State College. Ms Canny will be well known to you as the current Director of Students and has previously held the roles of Director of Student Welfare and House Head. Ms Canny is highly regarded as one of our most dynamic and successful teachers of Year 12 English. In her time at St Kevin’s she has coached Basketball and Tennis, and, participated in many Outdoor Education camps and retreats.

More recently, Ms Canny has been the driving force behind the Academic Review Program which has benefitted so many of our senior students. Janet was at the centre of our development of the Relationship-Centred Education Policy and Practice which has become a hallmark of St Kevin’s pastoral care. Her contribution to our school has been across every area of our operation and community life and I look forward to her ongoing commitment to St Kevin’s and her increased responsibility for the leadership of our school.

Ms Canny’s knowledge of the Edmund Rice charism is deep and her involvement in the life of the church in her parishes has been constant.

Do join me in congratulating Ms Canny on her appointment.

Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Choral and Vocal Evening, performed in Smith Hall. The quality of the voices in our large choirs and in the auditioned ensembles is so high. SKC do sing and it is a tribute to Dr Barclay, Ms Friend and Mr Campbell that our boys enjoy singing so much.

At the various Presentation Evenings, there will be a member of the College Leadership Team. Mr Guinane was at the Cross Country evening last Sunday, Ms Canny at Hockey last night and I am looking forward to Soccer this Saturday. Boys are required to wear their formal uniform. I ask that parents dress to reflect what we ask of our boys.

The College Board convened at Tooronga Fields on Wednesday evening, allowing all another chance to view our new facility and celebrate the fine work done to bring us to the point where our boys and our opponents are enjoying the grounds.
