Headmaster's Weekly Address

20-Apr-2017

Welcome to Term II!

I have enjoyed conversations with boys regarding their break and have been delighted how often mention of spending time with Mum and Dad featured as one of the highlights of the holidays.

Every term has academic focus, but there is no doubt, full, formal reports and examinations bring that extra dimension to Term II. All boys should be using the advice and direction gained from the Academic Progress Interviews, to map out – literally – their approach to studies each and every week leading up to the mid-year examinations, for Years 7 – 12. We have in place, after-school support at Heyington and Waterford, so that extra help can be sought by every lad who has the humility and good sense to know that he needs help.

Winter sports are also adding to the sense of excitement about the College. The St Patrick’s Exchange gave all six senior squads the chance to play our fellow EREA school, in balmy Ballarat on Wednesday afternoon. The honours on the day were diplomatically shared. Our host won Football, Soccer and Cross Country, while we were successful in Basketball, Hockey and Rugby. My thanks to Mr Travers and all involved in the organisation of this, our longest standing sporting tradition, which dates back to 2018.

Debating has recommenced and I do hope most families have read Omnia and pencilled in which musicals and music performances they plan to attend this term. I am excited to share the news that it will be during this term that our new sports grounds at Tooronga will come into use. I hope to announce the opening date within the fortnight.

We welcome to staff in recent times:
  • Mr Alain Van Gurp Year 6D Homeroom Teacher

  • Ms Elizabeth Mathews Student Support Officer Glendalough

  • Mr Angus Henderson Building Services

  • Mr Andrew Teoh IT Systems Engineer (from 1 May)

Kind regards

Stephen F Russell
